The Story of Silverthorne’s Longest-Serving Police Officer

After 24 years of service, last month Senior Sergeant Tim Osborn received the Police Service Award and became the longest serving officer in the history of the Silverthorne Police Department. Now retired from active duty, Osborn continues to serve Silverthorne in his role as an evidence technician. And for him, it was a simple decision.
“It was an easy choice to serve the Silverthorne community,” said Osborn. “It is full of great people who take care of each other and are a pleasure to work for.”
With a decades long career that exemplifies an incredible amount of dedication to the community, Osborn appreciates the ability to help people throughout his career.
“When people reach out to law enforcement they are usually going through a rough time and have exhausted other options for assistance,” he said. “When we can step in and help people through a time when they thought they might not get help, it’s very rewarding.”
As he transitions from being a sworn in police officer to a civilian position as an evidence technician, Osborn fondly remembers highlights of his time in Silverthorne, such as working with kids during the Safe Summer kickoff events. He has also been able to be a positive influence through the relationships he forms with everyone he comes into contact with.
During his time serving Silverthorne, Osborn has seen vacant land turn into residential areas and stores come and go. Though the spirit of the town and the support he has received from the community remains the same.
“The growth and change is exciting and enhances the quality of life in Silverthorne,” he said.
As Osborn moves toward retirement, you can find him enjoying the mountains by spending his free time fishing, camping and ATV riding.

Después de 24 años de servicio, el mes pasado, el Sargento Mayor Tim Osborn recibió el premio al Servicio Policial y se convirtió en el oficial con más años de servicio en la historia del Departamento de Policía de SIlverthorne. Ahora retirado del servicio activo, Osborn continúa sirviendo a Silverthorne en su papel como técnico de evidencias. Y para él, fue una decisión simple.
“Fue una elección fácil servir a la comunidad de Silverthorne”, dijo Osborn. “Está lleno de grandes personas que se cuidan unos a otros y es un placer trabajar para ellos”.
Con una carrera de décadas que ejemplifica una increíble cantidad de dedicación a la comunidad, Osborn aprecia la capacidad de ayudar a las personas a lo largo de su carrera.
“Cuando las personas se acercan a las fuerzas del orden público, generalmente están pasando por un momento difícil y han agotado otras opciones de asistencia”, dijo. “Cuando podemos intervenir y ayudar a las personas en un momento en el que pensaban que no recibirian ayuda, es muy gratificante”.
A medida que pasa de ser un oficial de policía juramentado a un puesto civil como técnico de evidencias, Osborn recuerda con cariño los aspectos más destacados de su tiempo en Silverthorne, cómo trabajar con niños durante los eventos de lanzamiento de Safe Summer. También ha podido ser una influencia positiva a través de las relaciones que forma con todas las personas con las que entra en contacto.
Durante su tiempo al servicio de Silverthorne, Osborn ha visto terrenos baldíos convertirse en áreas residenciales y tiendas ir y venir. Aunque el espíritu del pueblo y el apoyo que ha recibido de la comunidad siguen siendo los mismos.
“El crecimiento y el cambio son emocionantes y mejoran la calidad de vida en Silverthorne”, dijo.
A medida que Osborn avanza hacia la jubilación, puede encontrarlo disfrutando de las montañas pasando su tiempo libre pescando, acampando y montando vehículos todo terreno.
