Locals Liquors in Silverthorne with Libby the dog

Summer in Silverthorne. Can you think of anything better? And what goes along with that sweet Silverthorne sunshine? Something to sip on from the experts at Locals Liquors, of course.

Chris Carran, Locals Liquors owner and refreshing summer drink expert, has big news for you: Zima is BACK! If you weren’t really missing it, this blog post is packed with other tasty tidbits, too. Read on for the full rundown from Chris, an Iowa native turned Silverthorne business owner.

Can you describe your business and where you are located?

We are Locals Liquors, located at 354 Blue River Parkway in Silverthorne. We offer an extensive selection of Colorado beer, wine and liquor. We cater to locals as well as tourists. We offer 10% off to locals from Steamboat to Breckenridge, Georgetown to Vail. We support local Colorado brewers and distillers.

We’re in a really fun and dynamic industry, and we really like what we do. Without the support of our local community we wouldn’t be here. People work very hard for their money, and we truly appreciate that they spend it with us.

How long have you been open for business?

When we opened in 2006, we were located next to the post office in a small 950-square-foot store. In 2009 we were approached by the owners of the Silverthorne Town Center to move on to Blue River Parkway. We accepted the offer and expanded to a 4,500-square-foot store.

What are the top three things you love about running a business in Summit County, especially Silverthorne?

I love the people. They work hard and they play hard. I love the sense of community and the support they have for one another in good times and bad. I love my environment.

Can you provide any favorite summer-time drinks that have recently returned to your store?

We just got Zima back in on a limited release. Craft brewers are also coming out with lighter, less hoppy beers … love that!

Are there any summer sipping favorites you recommend?

Cocktails are back! Manhattans, mules, margs, gin and tonics, martinis.

What are your summer best-sellers?

Lots of beer! Locally crafted gins and vodkas. Light, refreshing wines like Albarinos and Vinho Verdes.

What’s your favorite way to spend the day in Silverthorne?

Outside with my best dog friend Libby on any one of Silverthorne’s great hiking trails or on my paddleboard on North Pond or Lake Dillon.

Can you give visitors a must-do tip for their visit?

Take a HIKE!
