Thursday, March 12, 2020.

The Town of Silverthorne greatly values and prioritizes the health and safety of its community members. As concerns grow around COVID-19, town officials are committed to transparent communication.

The Town of Silverthorne has been informed that a Silverthorne Recreation Center employee is being tested for COVID-19. The employee being tested for COVID-19 last worked at the Silverthorne Recreation Center in the aquatics area on the evening of March 4, and visited the Recreation Center as a guest on March 9.

To maintain the priority of health and safety for our visitors and employees, the Town of Silverthorne has decided to close the Recreation Center as of regular closing hours on Thursday, March 12 until further notice.

During the closure, the Silverthorne Recreation Center will undergo a deep clean and disinfection procedure, as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The center will remain closed until an update is received regarding the employee’s COVID-19 results.

Since March 3, the Silverthorne Recreation Center has been taking extra preventative measures to help stop the spread of germs. In addition to the regular maintenance and cleaning of the facility, the center has also provided:

  • Additional sanitation stations located throughout the facility.
  • An updated and detailed disinfecting procedure completed by custodial staff twice daily.
  • Additional disinfection procedures for machines and weight equipment at a higher frequency.
  • Daily disinfection of pool furniture and pool decks.
  • Informational signage from the CDC on how to prevent the spread of disease.

All Silverthorne Recreation Center pass holders will have their passes extended for the amount of days equal to the closure. The Silverthorne Recreation Center will also prorate refunds with no administrative fee for programs canceled due to the closure.

Town officials will continue to monitor this situation and the employee’s testing results before making a decision to reopen the facility. The Town of Silverthorne will provide an update on the Silverthorne Recreation Center at noon tomorrow, Friday, March 13.
