Meet the new Assistant Police Chief Rachel Dunaway

Silverthorne’s new Assistant Police Chief Rachel Dunaway is a Colorado native that has been close to the Silverthorne community for 22 years. She has seen growth within the town firsthand, and with that growth comes a need for additional help within Silverthorne’s Police Department. With 23 years of law enforcement experience, Dunaway understands how to run day-to-day operations of public safety.
“My role as Assistant Chief means that I focus on community outreach, working with organizations across the county and maintaining standards in training and education,” said Dunaway.
Dunaway has already worked for the Silverthorne Police Department for six years and has served in the role of sergeant for the past four years. Before working for Silverthorne, she was a sergeant with the Summit County Sheriff’s Office for 11 years and also previously worked for the Breckenridge Police Department and Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office.
Dunaway’s extensive supervisory experience and masters level education also give her a good foundation to assist with recruitment and retention programs. However, the best part of her job is serving the people.
“Silverthorne has great, hardworking people who try to do what is right within the community,” said Dunaway.
While Dunaway works hard for the Town of Silverthorne and the community she serves, she also enjoys the varied recreational hobbies Silverthorne offers. As a former collegiate athlete and huge animal lover, you can usually find her hiking or snowshoeing with her two dogs. She also enjoys spending time fishing and golfing.

La nueva Subjefa de Policía de Silverthorne, Rachel Dunaway, nacida en Colorado, lleva 22 años en la comunidad de Silverthorne. Ha visto crecer el pueblo de primera mano, y con ese crecimiento viene la necesidad de ayuda adicional en el Departamento de Policía de Silverthorne. Con 23 años de experiencia en autoridad policial, Dunaway sabe cómo dirigir las operaciones cotidianas de seguridad pública.
“Mi papel como Subjefa significa que me centro en llegar a la comunidad, trabajar con organizaciones de todo el condado y mantener los estándares en formación y educación”, dijo Dunaway.
Dunaway ya ha trabajado para el Departamento de Policía de Silverthorne durante seis años y ha desempeñado el cargo de sargento durante los últimos cuatro. Antes de trabajar para Silverthorne, fue sargento de la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado de Summit durante 11 años y también trabajó anteriormente para el Departamento de Policía de Breckenridge y la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado de Arapahoe.
La amplia experiencia de Dunaway como supervisora y su formación a nivel de máster también le dan una buena base para ayudar en los programas de reclutamiento y retención. Sin embargo, lo mejor de su trabajo es servir a la gente.
“Silverthorne tiene gente estupenda y trabajadora que intenta hacer lo correcto dentro de la comunidad”, dijo Dunaway.
Aunque Dunaway trabaja duro para el pueblo de Silverthorne y la comunidad a la que sirve, también disfruta de las variadas aficiones recreativas que ofrece Silverthorne. Como antigua atleta universitaria y gran amante de los animales, normalmente se la puede encontrar haciendo senderismo o paseando con raquetas de nieve con sus dos perros. También le gusta pescar y jugar al golf.
