Deep Cleaning, Deep Gratitude at the Silverthorne Recreation Center

When the Silverthorne Recreation Center reopened in June, it was like a homecoming for local residents. For Recreation Center head custodian Theresa Papula, the reopening marked a return to normalcy—and the friendly, familiar faces that help make her job rewarding.
“I missed walking around and saying ‘hi’ to everyone,” said Theresa. “It’s been tough to walk into an empty building every day. Normally, I would come in every morning at 5:30 and greet our regulars starting at 6. I missed all of our members, they are like family.”
While the regulars are back, the routine is different. Reservations are required to use the facility. Theresa and her team wipe everything down as members come off equipment. The Center is vacated at regular intervals throughout the day so the staff may clean and disinfect high touch surfaces before the next wave of reservations arrive. At midday, between 1 and 3 p.m., staff close the center to do a deep clean. Another intensive cleaning occurs every night and on weekends.
“Come back!” Theresa said. “We miss you. We are ready for you. I didn’t realize how much of my life all of you were until everyone was gone.”
Theresa, her team and the rest of the staff at the Recreation Center continued to work during the Center’s closure. For several hours each day, they took on the monumental effort of deep cleaning and, as reopening day approached, maintenance, and moving machines to respect social distance guidelines. In addition, they deep cleaned the pool, zip-tied lockers and blocked off showers, steam rooms, sauna, and hot tub facilities, which are closed until further notice. Theresa and her team also used an electrostatic sprayer to apply a disinfectant on all surfaces throughout the facility, twice, just before reopening day arrived.
Now that things are up and running, upon entering the Recreation Center, each guest is given a disinfectant bottle and clean microfiber rag to take with them and use during their visit, and drop off when they are done. Following an Executive Order, masks are now required at all times while in the facility. Rags are then washed after each use.
“I feel like I am running a laundromat these days,” Theresa joked.
It is a lot of work, but for Theresa, who has lived in Silverthorne for more than 23 years, it is a blessing to have the doors open again. Come August, Theresa will celebrate 10 years of full time employment with the Town, which was preceded by a part-time gig that started in 2006, teaching gymnastics.
She’s looking forward to welcoming you at the Center, and when you see her, you might also tell her congratulations; Theresa is soon to be a first time homeowner. She and her 11-year-old son are slated to move in to the Smith Ranch neighborhood during the month of July.
The Silverthorne Recreation Center is currently open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. with a midday closure from 1 to 3 p.m., in order to clean and disinfect the facility, replenish supplies and change over staff. At this time the Silverthorne Recreation Center will remain closed on weekends to allow for detailed cleaning and disinfecting procedures, and is limiting admission to passholders and punch passholders. Theresa, su equipo y el resto del personal en el centro de recreación continuaron trabajando durante el cierre del centro. Por varias horas cada día, tomaron la monumental tarea de hacer una limpieza profunda, al acercarse el día de abrir de nuevo, movieron equipo y le dieron mantenimiento para respetar la distancia social. También hicieron limpieza profunda de las albercas, los casilleros y bloquearon las regaderas, cuartos de vapor, sauna y las instalaciones de los jacuzzis que estarán cerradas hasta un anuncio nuevo. Theresa y su equipo usaron un aerosol electrostático para aplicar desinfectantes en todas las superficies por todas las instalaciones, dos veces antes de abrir.
Ahora que las casa están abiertas,cada miembro e invitado se le da una botella desinfectada y una microfibra limpia para usar durante su visita y que regresen cuando terminen. Las mascaras son requeridas cuando entren a las instalaciones. Los trapos de limpieza son lavados después de cada uso.

Esto es mucho trabajo, pero para Theresa que a vivido en silverthorne por mas de 23 años, es una bendición tener las puertas abiertas otra vez. En Agosto, Theresa celebrara 10 años de trabajar tiempo completo con la ciudad, que fue precedida por un trabajo de medio tiempo enseñando gimnasia que inicio en el 2006.
Ella esta esperando darles la bienvenida en el centro de recreación, y cuando la vea, también puede felicitarla. Theresa pronto será una propietaria de una casa por la primera vez. Ella y su hijo de 11 años están programados a mudarse en el vecindario de Smith Ranch durante el mes de Julio.
El centro de recreación de silverthorne esta abierto de Lunes a Viernes de 6 a.m a 7 p.m con un cierre al medio día de 1 p.m a 3 p.m para poder limpiar y desinfectar las instalaciones, y reponer y cambiar suministros y cambios de personal.
